At Legacy Quilters we believe all quilts should be labeled. We also believe that the label should not fade over time but last as long as the quilt. To accomplish this our labels are made using a sublimation printer and sublimation ink. When heat and pressure are applied the ink turns into a gas without first liquifying. Essentially when you sublimate something it “becomes a part of the substrate.” Therefore, you must damage the substrate to damage the image.

WHY ADD A QUILT LABEL

Your quilt deserves a story no matter what level of quilter you are. It’s important to document and preserve its history. Most quilters today understand the value of adding a quilt label, which wasn’t always the case. All too often people are left trying to figure out, many years later, the story behind a quilt. Imagine future generations using your quilts decades from now. The label is a great way for them to know who made it, and when it was made. Quilt historians use these labels to research and understand the development of quilt patterns, the popularity of fabrics/designers and the construction methods during a specific time period.

WHAT TO PUT ON A QUILT LABEL

Ultimately the decision is yours, however…..

At minimum, all quilt labels should have at least two things: the name of the maker and the year the quilt was completed.

If your quilt is gifted the full name of the recipients, so there’s no mistake to whom it belongs. The full name of the maker, not just mom or grandma or nana. What is the occasion for making the quilt. Christmas, wedding, graduation, etc.

The most heart-warming of items to include on the label are messages. These could be words of wisdom, inspiration, perhaps a bible verse, a song lyric.

In your e-mail provide us with:

    • Your full name and address

    • Picture of your quilt, so we can match graphics. (Optional) 

    • Label size: 4″ or 6″ (Corner Label)

    • Label fabric color: White, Beige, or Grey 

    • Personalization. If you require assistance with this I would be more than happy to help.

You will receive a proof of the label for your approval before anything is sent out.
