MEMORY QUILTS

MEMORY QUILTS

A memory quilt is a thoughtful artistic way to repurpose cherished materials into a unique keepsake.

We specialized in crafting these quilts, preserving your memories, and telling a unique story.  Having one made can be a meaningful way to cherish and celebrate significant moments in life, creating a tangible and lasting tribute.

The process involves precision in cutting, arranging, and stitching to ensure the final quilt reflects the desired narrative or theme.

What we need from you:

Wash your items with no fabric softener and ensure they are neatly pressed.

Mark the items or areas on the items that are very important with a safety pin.

Decide on the quilts size layout and design. Consider the story or theme you want to convey.  If you are unsure or prefer assistance, we are happy to help.

This is where we come in.

In most cases we can draft up a very general sample of your layout for you to see and approve.  This involves measuring and taking pictures of your items, then transferring the information into a software to draft up a general idea of your quilt. Calculations are made before we start.

Once the layout has been approved, we begin deconstructing and stabilized your fabric pieces with a lightweight fusible interfacing.

Pieces are cut and placed onto our design board to help finalize the layout.

We carefully stitch the pieces together with a ½” seam allowance ensuring no seam becomes undone.  Our workmanship is guaranteed.

The backing fabric is sewn and squared off to prepare it for the longarm machine.

All three layers are loaded onto our machine.  The top quilt, the batting, and the backing fabric

The layers are quilted together to enhance the durability and aesthetics of your quilt.

A 1-1/2” French binding is sewn all around your quilt to finish the edges.  Depending on design it will be either hand finished, or machine finished with a complimentary label.

The label is a very important part of your keepsake.

Labeling your memory quilt is a thoughtful way to provide context and ensure its significance is preserved over time.  This adds a personal touch and helps future generations understand the quilts story, creating a connection to the memories it represents. Additionally, labelling can be crucial for passing down family history, turning the quilt into a cherished heirloom with a documented narrative.

IN MEMORIAM QUILTS

This is such a special and unique gift. We will work with you in coming up with a design that suits your loved one and your budget.

These two quilts were made from two Polo shirts. We added neutral coloured fabric to create these beautiful star quilts in memory of Dad.

This memory quilt was made with Dads checkered shirts. The picture on the left shows design in progress and the picture on the right, the finished product with pillow.

This quilt was made using the entire wardrobe. Customer wanted something that would remind him of chaos. I think we nailed it! We stitched it with a design called broken glass by Deb Geisser.

GUEST BOOK QUILTS / SIGNATURE QUILTS

Think baby shower, wedding reception , retirement parties ,family reunions

Talk about a great memory quilt. Instead of signing a traditional guest book have your guests sign a quilt block. We can make you a one of a kind, to last a lifetime memory of all those good wishes and thoughtfull messages.

How it works: There are different sizes and styles to suit any type of gathering. We will work with you through this process. You will choose your own fabrics that match your color and style. It usu’ally takes 2-3 weeks for us to send you your fabric squares and marking pens . You set your squares out at your gathering and direct guests to sign the squares. It’s best to make an announcement about this rather then just have the table set up. You should also have some kind of instructions at the table as well. We can help you with that as well. Pinterest has some great ideas. After your event is over, gather up all the squares signed and unsigned and send them back to us. We will turn these squares into a beautiful quilt for you to treasure a lifetime.
